One more electric car to the mass market; Kia Syros EV bookings open
The Kia Syros EV enters the popular sub-4-metre electric car category, packed with premium features. It shares its battery pack options with the Kia Carens Clavis EV and the Hyundai Creta Electric.
While all other rivals currently in the market offer LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) batteries, these battery packs utilize NMC (Nickel Manganese Cobalt) chemistry.
The Syros EV gets two battery pack options: 42kWh and 51.4kWh. The 51.4kWh variants feature a 171hp front electric motor and claim a range of up to 526 km, which is higher than that of the Clavis and Creta EVs.
Built on the K1 platform, the interior and exterior of the Syros EV are highly identical to its petrol/diesel counterpart.
Kia is offering 7.4kW and 11kW AC charger options. Using a 7.4kW charger, the smaller battery takes 6 hours to charge from 10 to 100%, while the larger battery requires 7 hours and 15 minutes. Alternatively, using a 100kW DC fast charger, the 51.4kWh battery can be topped up from 10 to 100% in just 39 minutes.
The Kia Syros EV will be available in five variants: HTK, HTK+, HTX, HTX+, and X-Line. The smaller battery pack will be offered in the first three variants, while the larger battery pack will be available on all variants except the base model.
The Syros is currently Kia’s lowest-selling mass-market model in India. This electric avatar could give its sales a major boost.
